ARCAVERDE is located in the hills of Cerchiara di Calabria, looking out toward the Ionian Sea. In the Cerchiara area one catches glimpses of landscapes of extraordinary beauty, from deep gorges with steep, rocky walls carved out over the millennia by the Caldanello River, to fertile, wooded hills sloping gently down toward the sea.
The whole area is fertile, the climate mild, and so it is not surprising that flora prosper here. There has never been intensive agriculture in these hills, but rather, people here have always grown just the right amount to satisfy their own necessities, leaving nature to reign undisturbed.
Here, protected as in a jewel box, there are majestic examples of oak, holm oak and tri-lobed maple, as well as plants that are part of the "macchia mediterranea" (native plants that grow profusely all over the Mediterranean) such as juniper, tamarisk and holm oak, plants which are usually quite small, but in this environment are large and flourishing.

As our land is happily located in this completely uncontaminated environment, it naturally occurred to us to name our family business "ARCAVERDE" (GREEN ARC). We feel that the word "Arcaverde" encapsulates the ethical commitment we bring to growing olives in Cerchiara di Calabria.
